A 60-day cruise circling Australia has been cancelled following the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was left behind by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the excursion for a pause. The liner departed without her and went back after some time after the crew realised the passenger was missing.

A major rescue mission discovered her person the next day.

Officials are examining the tragedy, in coordination with police and the state coroner.

Head of the voyage organizer announced that guests and staff on the ship were notified that the continuation of the cruise had been terminated due to the "sad loss and prior mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".
