Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then located numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for tips.

An important representative commented the vandalism left him stunned and required to be solved quickly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
